How About Including Tofu In Your Diet?
Filed Under (food) by Viv;=) on 01-06-2008
First, I love Tofu and I find that it is very versatile. I love it steamed or add in soups. You can eat it hot or cold.
Tofu is soybean curd, made from soymilk where an agent is added for coagulation to form curds. The excess liquid is squeezed out and the remaining solid curds are pressed into blocks. Think cheese…made in the similar way but from cow’s milk.
Anyway, besides being an excellent and healthful addition to any diet, I think Tofu should be a smart choice for anyone trying to lose weight without sacrificing good nutrition.
These are some of the many well-known health benefits to consider for including Tofu in your diet:
1. high-quality plant protein that does not elevate blood pressure
2. cholesterol free and has low glycaemic indexes
3. high in dietary fibre, without the added calories
4. contains several essential vitamins and minerals like iron, calcium and magnesium
5. contains omega-3 fatty acids that combats heart diseases
6. reduces the risk of several types of cancer like colon, prostate and breast because of isoflavones,
a phyto-chemical found in soy.
So bear in mind that Tofu isn’t the exclusive domain for vegetarians and dieters, it is for everyone and anyone to enjoy it as part of a balanced and varied diet!
